How to Find the Correct OE Part Number

By ChinaRide Parts · Published

Start with the complete number on the part or its label, then check that reference against the vehicle details. A matching search result is a lead for an enquiry—not proof that the part fits your vehicle. This guide is a purchasing checklist for Chery, MG and BYD enquiries, not a vehicle-specific fitment approval.

1. Record the label before searching

Photograph the entire label and take a separate close-up of the printed number. Keep letters, leading zeros, spaces, hyphens and suffixes in your original record. If a character is unclear, mark it as uncertain rather than replacing it with a guess.

There may be several markings on a component. A supplier number, serial number or casting mark should not automatically be treated as the vehicle manufacturer's orderable OE reference. Record which marking you copied and ask the supplier to identify it.

2. Prepare vehicle details alongside the number

  • Brand, model and model year, where known.
  • Engine or powertrain variant and transmission details.
  • VIN or frame reference, shared privately for identification when needed.
  • Vehicle market and the required component position, such as front left.

Do not assume that a model name alone resolves a part choice. If you cannot confirm a detail, write “unknown” so it can be checked before a quotation is accepted.

3. Use a catalogue or a parts specialist to cross-check

Manufacturer catalogues can offer different lookup routes. For example, DENSO's catalogue offers vehicle, part-number and VIN/frame searches. Bosch describes OE cross-references and current part-number identification in its Part Finder. These are examples of lookup methods, not evidence that either catalogue covers a particular Chery, MG or BYD item.

Ask the relevant dealer or supplier to confirm whether your reference is current, whether a replacement number applies, and what vehicle details support the match. Keep the answer or catalogue reference with your enquiry. Do not silently substitute a similar-looking number.

4. Compare the item, not just the title

Include clear views of the whole part and any connectors, mounting points or position labels. Where a dimension matters, state how it was measured. A similar photograph is not a substitute for a fitment check, and an old installed part may not be the correct reference for the vehicle.

What if the number is missing or two references disagree?

Send the part description, available vehicle details and label photos. List both conflicting references with their sources and ask for clarification. Leave the item unconfirmed until the discrepancy is resolved; do not order solely because a search result uses the same model name.

Use your reference on ChinaRide Parts

Search the reference catalogue, then include the number and its source in your enquiry. Listings marked as unverified still require compatibility confirmation. A listing does not establish stock, price or delivery time.

Next: prepare an RFQ with the information needed for a quotation.
